God has need for everything he created. Nothing God does or makes is useless. There is a purpose to everything you do and everything you are.
Most people have things they dislike about themselves. I’m not exempt. There are things that I’ll love in one moment then question in the next. One of those things is humour. If you know me, you’ll know I’m quite playful and I get told repeatedly that my sense of humour is great. I love that. I’m glad I can make people laugh and smile. However, there were comments I started to hear repeatedly that made me start to dislike being the “funny friend”. I aired my concerns to God but I still felt insecure in that area of my personality.
In the midst of all that, I was asked to be the MC for my sister’s wedding ceremonies and that was a huge deal. I’d never hosted at a wedding before so naturally I thought, can I even do this? Anyway it was all fine. I did my best and it was very well received – thank the Lord. As I was on my way home from the traditional ceremony I heard the Holy Spirit say “so tell me, how do you feel about being humorous now? Do you still dislike being funny?” What a question. How do you even begin to answer that? Thankfully I didn’t have to because the response that came was “If I didn’t give you the sense of humour that you have, you would not have been able to serve your sister in the way she needed.”
Now some people don’t believe that God speaks but that is besides the point. It goes back to what I said at the very beginning. Nothing you have is without purpose. If you’re the funny friend in your group, you will be able to serve others in a way some others can’t. If you’re compassionate, your heart for people will make room for you. Whatever your personality traits might be, God has a use for them and so do the people around you. Embrace your personality…. every part of it.
